    It gets better once you’re in.

    It’s not the most impressive first impression and a bit daunting. Helped by cheerful and willing reception staff, things get a lot better inside though. The reception desk is permanently manned.

    Rooms are comfortably furnished, very clean and quiet; depending where yours is located.

    Enhanced by pleasant staff, breakfast, for instance, is fine. Not a huge choice, but the components are good. Two real features are the 24 hour bar and the ability to order piping hot pizza whenever you want it.

    Floored by the noise.

    They seem to have made a real effort to insulate the walls against noise, but at the expense of the floors! Consequently, you can hear people on the floors above, clear as a bell.

    It’s like being abroad.

    It’s not their fault, so this is not a complaint against staff members. Travelodge comes in for some stick, though for imposing non-English speaking, or limited at best, personnel on paying guests.

    Weary and dreary.

    Corridors are badly maintained and grubby so the approach to the room fills you with trepidation. Not the best introduction by a long chalk.
