The Shirley Arms Hotel (Carrickmacross, Ireland)

The hotel has been beautifully restored in most areas and provides impressive architecture and a charming ambience. Centrally located between Dublin and Belfast (an hour from each), you'll find plenty to do within a stroll of the premises - or drive further for additional bigger city attractions. An excellent value, especially when paired with a golf package or party/wedding/conference. The restaurant and bar both attract plenty of locals to their lunches, dinners, Sunday Carvery and extensive wine lists.

Amidst the large, pristine accommodations stand lovely decor and amenities, perfectly arranged around remarkably comfortable beds. The complimentary handmade soaps are a lovely touch as well.

Outstanding staff members are friendly, helpful and willing to go above and beyond to ensure your comfort. Be sure to contact the front desk if there is anything you should need - they won't mind a bit!

You probably won't need to worry about getting scalded in these showers - they often stay lukewarm for quite a long time.

You may want to ask for a rear-facing room if you are a light sleeper. Front-facing rooms overlook the busy street and rooms above events might keep you awake until the wee hours with music and voices. Dim lighting creates a lovely ambience, but you might want to bring a bright light in to read or do make-up.

Some areas of the hotel have difficulty with the Wi-Fi; ask if they've completed their upgrade to the internet system if that's essential to your visit.
