Positive Reviews
positive:
Affordable accommodation in the heart of London.
The Somerset Hotel offers affordable (2 star) accommodation in the heart of London, one of the most expensive cities in the world to stay on holiday in. Choices in room configurations are varied ranging from a single room (single bed) through to family rooms that sleep up to five guests. All rooms come with en-suite and most have a bath/shower combo with one or two featuring bath only.
positive:
Excellent location for exploring the city.
Situated in the upmarket area of Marylebone, the hotel is only a couple of minutes from the Baker Street Tube Station and less than twenty minutes from London’s famous Oxford Streets bars, restaurants and shops. Everything worth seeing in the city such as Madam Tussauds, Westminster, Buckingham Palace and Piccadilly are all within easy reach.
positive:
Classic Georgian architecture.
Fans of hotel accommodation within historic buildings will love this original Georgian townhouse which still features much of the original architecture and design/décor pieces, in rooms and throughout the building.
Negative Reviews
negative:
No in-room coffee or tea or restaurant service.
Curiously the hotel does not provide complimentary tea or coffee in any of the rooms, something that is standard in most hotels. Guests must make use of a coffee machine in the basement, a somewhat arduous task if staying on the top floor.
negative:
No lift service, only stairs.
There is no lift service in the hotel and guests must use the stairs (with no luggage assistance) to access rooms. Book on the ground floor if negotiating stairs under any circumstances is a problem.
negative:
Wi-Fi access but not free.
Free Wi-Fi in hotels is fast becoming the norm in most establishments, the Somerset Hotel however, charges a daily rate for use of its Wi-Fi, both in rooms and in public spaces throughout the hotel.
