Positive Reviews
positive:
Beautiful cosy rooms in historical building.
The rooms are spacious and cosy, and complement the building's long standing history. They're done in lovely colours and textures, and combine floral touches with crisp designs, also blending some contemporary details into the period ambience. It's a pleasant atmosphere filled with comfort and old charm.
positive:
Delicious meals and drinks in comfortable settings.
The menus for the restaurant and the bar are quite satisfying, offering international cuisine, and top-notch cocktails, wines, and ales. Ample, delightfully prepared dishes incorporate seasonal and local ingredients, in a setting that's as relaxing, inviting, and warm as the rest of the bed and breakfast.
positive:
Fabulous location adds to the inn's character.
Old Hall is perfectly situated amongst the Peak District, and near several other notable historical buildings and popular sites. It's across the way from the Buxton Opera House, which makes it extremely convenient for theatre excursions and strolling around the immediate area. The environment is quite suiting to the inn's location, and also unsurprisingly, the kind of place where there's been reports of Mary Queen of Scots' ghost roaming about!
Negative Reviews
negative:
Inconsistent service from staff is disappointing.
Staff attitude and the level of customer service employed varies. At times, they're great to communicate and deal with, always available and ready to assist with whatever they can. But then there are instances where they're difficult to get a hold of, not very polite, and lagging in prompt attention.
negative:
Breakfast quality is not always up to standards.
The quality of breakfast is another inconsistent occurrence. Sometimes, it's great, one of the best meals experienced at an inn, and other times, it seems hastily prepared and cooked, and of sub-par standards.
