Positive Reviews
positive:
Good things come in small packages...
The rooms are widely described as small but stylish and clean, with comfortable beds and luxurious showers with good water pressure. Guests on the higher floors of the 19-storey building rave about the view as well as the fresh air courtesy of the operable windows.
positive:
A convenient, well connected location...
Guests often comment that the hotel is very well connected to the city via public transport. Via the Lohmühlenstraße station right out front you can get to the central station in about two minutes, and from there, to just about any place in Hamburg you might want to see. The Berliner Tor is a five-minute walk, too. Drivers also like the location, noting the underground parking lot is large and the rate is reasonable.
positive:
A good start and happy end...
Guests are pleased to report a warm welcome from cheerful staff at check-in, and enjoy excellent service at the bar in the One Lounge into the wee hours as well. The breakfast and the drinks are widely considered both tasty and fairly priced.
Negative Reviews
negative:
Feeding a crowd...
Because the breakfast buffet is so popular, hungry guests have reported waits of 20-30 minutes for a table at "prime" times. The seating is also not entirely ideal for the breakfast crowd, as some of the tables are too low for comfort.
negative:
Minimal "extras"...
Guests unfamiliar with the Motel One brand have been unpleasantly surprised and inconvenienced by the lack of "extra" amenities such as a telephone, kettle, safe, or handwashing soap in the rooms.
negative:
Global warming?
Though most guests report the air conditioning works well, others have difficulty adjusting the in-room temperature to their liking.
