Hotel Mansfield Park (Adelaide, Australia)

Everyone is very friendly and helpful. The PR side of things is very good and service, throughout, is friendly and efficient.

The bistro food is really very good. Excellent quality and value. The small kitchen area in the room is great if you just want to kick your shoes off, prepare a quick snack - and save money at the same time.

Give or take a few blips, cleaning throughout is good and efficient. It's certainly no worse than that experienced in larger hotels.

What is that smell? It has a heavy hint of chemicals. This pervades all the rooms and is stomach churning. Open the balcony door and you get a cloud of smoke from the smoking area outside the ‘pub'. Breakfast is OK ish … but it's still overridden by that pungent smell.

Rooms leave much to be desired and need to be prioritised if guests are going to be attracted. On arrival, the room is clearly not habitable. Cleaning staff may be pushed to the limit but to be allowed access to rooms in this condition is not acceptable. Strangely, many other features of the stay are quite impressive. There is Wi-Fi throughout - although it isn't good in all areas.

The French call it ‘petit dejeuner', but to most, it's simply breakfast. Here, they emphasise the ‘petit' reference. Breakfast is small, insignificant and obviously an after-thought. Breakfast is also a DIY job … so don't wait for the waitress to take your order!
