Ample breakfast
While reviews of other meals are mixed, guests had high praise for the breakfast served. It is described as more than ample, and just what was required to set them up for the day ahead.
With its delightful mock-Tudor facade, the Hibernian Hotel and Leisure Centre offers accommodation and extensive leisure facilities in the heart of County Cork. The rooms have been renovated to a high standard, and feature ultra modern bathrooms, satellite TV’s, tea/coffee stations and hairdryers. The main focus at the Hibernian Hotel is undoubtedly on its very extensive leisure centre, access to which is included in the room rate. It features an indoor pool, sauna, steam room, jacuzzi and gym with free weights. Day time meals are served at the chic Coffee Dock and Bistro, while in the evening the highly acclaimed Blackwater Restaurant offers the best of Irish dining in an elegant setting. When it’s a drink that’s called for the Dave ‘O Mahoney Bar will see you right. The hotel is a great base for exploring rural Co. Cork. Further afield, Killarney and its National Park are an hour’s drive away.

Perhaps the most positive aspect of the hotel for its guests was its leisure centre. It is described as extensive, with everything guests wanted when looking to get a bit more active.
Quite a few guests travelling as families were very impressed by the size of the family rooms. Even a guest who was part of a family of six regarded her family room as more than spacious enough to accommodate all.
This is by far the most common complaint. There is a pub/nightclub on the ground floor, and guests find that the music played can easily be heard in their rooms. Naturally this goes on till quite late, especially on weekends, so their ability to sleep was significantly affected.
While reviews of staff service levels are almost invariably mixed, and there were plenty of good reviews of the Hiberian's staff, there were perhaps a bit too many negative sentiments expressed to be ignored. Guests speak of staff being both disengaged and uninterested, and occasionally even actively rude. There seems to be great inconsistency with service levels.
Several guests complain about parts of their rooms being very worn with age - threadbare carpets, dinged furniture and so on. They considered them way past the due date for an upgrade.
