About Old Swan
Old Swan is a boutique hotel of two halves; one part Victorian Mill converted into contemporary accommodation, one part restored 15th Century Inn, with traditional rooms and character features.
All rooms come complete with flat screen TV, direct dial telephones and modern en-suite bathrooms. Old Swan rooms have beamed ceilings and wooden beds, while Minster Mill options offer modern, eco-friendly accommodation with views.
The hotel is set among 65 acres of wildflower meadows, woodland and landscaped gardens, and Old Swan also offers tennis courts, gym, treatment rooms and reception rooms with comfortable seating. Parking and Wi-Fi are free.
A gastro-pub menu is served in the restaurant and bar featuring flagstone floors and open fires. The hotel also offers a picnic menu.
Popular attractions of Blenheim Palace and Cheltenham Race Course are less than 30 miles away, with Oxford 14-miles from the hotel.
Positive Reviews
positive:
Stunning Cotswolds setting.
The Old Swan & Minster Mill is set in idyllic Cotswold countryside; among its own 65 acre, landscaped gardens. You can wind your way through the wildflower meadows, woodland areas and along river paths or stop at a picnic table by the mill. The hotel itself is equally as beautiful.
positive:
Welcoming to all.
For many guests, one of the best things about the hotel is how welcoming they are to all their guests; both two- and four-legged. Dogs are treated to dog beds, bowls and a keepsake bandana on arrival and home-cooked dog food is available. For families, interconnecting rooms are available, a proficient kids menu is offered in the restaurant, and age-appropriate activities can be arranged both on and off-site.
positive:
Very well-equipped.
For a Country boutique hotel, many guests remark on how well-equipped the Old Swan & Minster Mill is; with a gym, tennis courts, croquet lawns and spa on-site. There is word that a health club, with pool, sauna and steam room, is due to be added by 2016.
Negative Reviews
negative:
Rooms: room for improvement.
While few guests can doubt the hotels stunning features, some rooms are beginning to look a little dated and others have been described as uncomfortably small. Some have also said that practicality could be improved; with limited storage space available.
negative:
Own transport necessary.
There is plenty to do in the vicinity but, unfortunately, little within walking distance. Those staying at the hotel will almost certainly want their own transport.
negative:
Not a budget option.
Several guests have suggested that the prices of the food and drinks in the restaurant are rather high and, while you're likely paying for the setting, you may wish to venture out on occasion. Quality is high, however, and menus offer plenty of choice.
