About Old Custom House
The Old Custom House is an imposing three-storey inn in the quaint fishing village of Padstow; full of independent shops, restaurants and art galleries. The hotel offers four-star accommodation with stunning harbour views.
Rooms; many of which have sea views, are decorated in a modern, nautical style and offer en-suite facilities, satellite TV and tea and coffee making facilities.
Luggage storage is available, Wi-Fi is free, and there is a hair and beauty salon where guests can book all manner of treatments.
The pub serves locally-sourced food and award-winning real ales, Pescadou Restaurant offers everything from fish, seafood, meat and vegetarian options on its menu, and the Brewer & Bean coffee shop has hot beverages, snacks and pastries for sale.
The Old Custom House is a five-minute walk to the Rock Ferry and South West Coastal Path, and there are no less than seven sandy beaches within a five-minute drive.
Positive Reviews
positive:
Prime Padstow location.
With its location on the harbour-front, you would struggle to find accommodation more centrally-located within the Village. Sea view rooms come highly recommended, while the sights can also be enjoyed from many of the common areas.
positive:
Food heaven.
The hotel offers a broad breakfast menu, with well-sized portions of good-quality food, and both the pub and Pescadou Restaurant come highly recommended. And, with its Padstow location, you also have your pick of award-winning fish and chip shops, high-end restaurants, cafes and bakeries, right on your doorstep.
positive:
Pleasant, helpful staff.
Most find the staff at the Old Custom House to be pleasant and helpful and, while professional, manage to retain a friendly, relaxed atmosphere in all areas.
Negative Reviews
negative:
Noisy neighbours.
In fairness to the Old Custom House, they do make clear on their website that some rooms are affected by noise (given the hotels central location and pub beneath), and it is something guests may experience. Other noise complaints, out of their control, include passing late-night revellers and early-morning seagulls.
negative:
Compact sleeping arrangements.
Unless you choose to upgrade, you may find your room a little on the compact side. If you're used to a king-size bed, or larger, the sleeping arrangements may be a little cramped too; with standard doubles in most rooms.
negative:
More B&B than hotel.
Accommodation at The Old Custom House is situated above the pub, and there is no guest lounge and no lobby, with a hatch for reception. While this doesn't bother many, others are left feeling that it is more bed and breakfast than hotel, but with a price tag to match the latter.
